Best Idea for Red Tape Reduction Award

The Best Idea for Red Tape Reduction Award aims at identifying innovative suggestions for reducing unnecessary bureaucracy stemming from European law.

The purpose of the competition is to generate ideas for the European Commission to consider as part of its Action Programme for Reducing Administrative Burdens.

The European Qualifications Framework: a new tool to translate qualifications
A Recommendation establishing the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning (EQF) was formally co-signed in April by the European Parliament and the Council.

 

The Recommendation creates a reference framework, which will relate different countries, qualifications systems and frameworks together. It will act as a translation device to make qualifications more readable and understandable to employers, individuals and institutions, so that workers and learners can use their qualifications in other countries.

European Union wants more support for small and medium sized enterprises
On 31st of January, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the content of a European "Small Business Act". Its objective is to put small and medium sized enterprises at the forefront of decision-making in the EU and to introduce concrete measures to unlock the SMEs' growth potential. It will include new initiatives to reduce regulatory burden on SMEs, facilitate access to Single Market/public procurement, help provide necessary financial/human resources for SME development and help SME’s face the challenge of globalisation and climate change.

Breakthrough in Lisbon EU summit agrees on reform treaty

The EU reform treaty is signed and sealed: After tough negotiations the Heads of State or Government of the community have obtained agreement about the contract in the early morning. The document shall be signed on December 13th in Lisbon and become effective in front of the next European elections 2009. It replaces the EU constitution failed in the year 2005.
